HarperCollins, Avenue Bookstore and BooksPlus awarded at Leading Edge Books Conference
Awards were presented at this year’s Leading Edge Books Conference in Canberra on 28 May. In a night celebrating the excellence in Independent Bookselling held at the National Museum of Australia, awards were presented for Publisher of the Year, an award voted for by over 70 independent bookstores from around the country, plus awards for Bookstore of the Year - Metro and Bookstore of the Year - Regional.
HarperCollins was named Publisher of the Year from a finalist list that included Allen & Unwin, Hachette and Text.
Avenue Bookstore in Melbourne was named Metro Bookstore of the Year and BooksPlus in Bathurst, NSW, was named Regional Bookstore of the Year. Also shortlisted in the metro category were Readings Carlton and Harry Hartog Bondi, while Matilda Bookshop and Torquay Books were in the running in the regional category.
The award for Best Business Idea was presented to Amelia Lush from Better Read Than Dead in Sydney for her teacher-librarian nights.
