National Bookshop Day promotes local bookshops - #LoveYourBookshop

Celebrate National Bookshop Day at your local bookshop on Saturday 13th August 2016.

National Bookshop Day is an annual promotional event supported by the Australian Booksellers Association (ABA) to celebrate bookshops, promote their value in the community, and to invite customers to return to or support their local bookshop. Inspired by the highly successful North American 'Free Comic Book Day' and Record Store Day, National Bookshop Day celebrates local bookshops through in-store activity, local publicity and grass roots fun.

Supported by the Australian Booksellers Association, bookshops will be reinforcing their message that local bookshops are an integral part of the Australian way of life. They are the first point of contact between the reader and books. They care about the customer, the reader, and the books they want to read.

"Throughout Australia, hundreds of bookshops will be holding events and having activities, or simply saying thank you to the readers, writers, libraries and schools that support them. Though we do it every day of the year, it is a specific occasion where we can celebrate the unique place that bookshops have in the community, and celebrate their role in the local community, and the myriad of ways in which they contribute to the local economy, and to Australian culture and society."– Joel Becker, CEO Australian Booksellers Association

The 2016 National Bookshop Day posters, bookmarks, social media pack and more is now available to download from the ABA website

As the Great War raged in 1916, two teams of Australian soldiers played an Australian Rules football match in London. It was the first time the world had seen our national game. But this was more than an exhibition match. It symbolised sport's role in driving young athletes to enlist and fight.

For the players it was a chance to forget blood and battle and simply play, a final kick of the footy before the Western Front, from where some would never return.

Now, 100 years on, Nick Richardson rekindles an incredible moment in our history and pays tribute to the men who played The Game of Their Lives.

Nick Richardson will be in conversation with Jane Longhurst at Fullers Bookshop

Join Australia's most popular picture book duo in their magnificent, brand new 78-storey treehouse. They've added 13 new levels including a drive-thru car wash, a combining machine, a scribbletorium, an ALL-BALL sports stadium, Andyland, Terrytown, a high-security potato chip storage facility and an open-air movie theatre.

Well, what are you waiting for? Come on up!

Saturday the 13th of August is National Bookshop Day! This wonderful event is organised by the Australian Booksellers Association on the second Saturday in August each year to celebrate bookshops, and in particular the contributions they make to their community.

We are very excited for National Bookshop Day, and we are hoping we can get you excited too! We are running a special promotion on the day, with anyone who makes a purchase receiving a 20% discount voucher to use on their next visit! We have also set up something special at the front of our store; a little something we like to call our 'Bookshop Tree'. This structure has an eclectic collection of bits and bobs hanging from it, but the most important are circles containing comments and quotes about people's love of bookshops. We would love it if you could contribute to this, either by coming in and writing something or by commenting on this facebook post, so that we can transcribe it and hang it from our tree.
